The prequel to the popular third-person shooter franchise Gears of War , Gears Tactics is a turn-based strategy game that is a diversion from the traditional norms of the genre. It looks great, and the layout gives it the feel of a core Gears of War game despite being a strategy g

Gears Tactics , a join collaboration between Splash Damage and The Coalition, is also getting upgraded to 4k and 60 frames per second as well. Outside of enhancing already available titles and keeping Gears 5 updated with new content, it's unknown what direction The Coalition may be heading in for its next major title. Gears 6 seems like a no-brainer, but only time will t

The area maps in XCOM , where fights take place, begin to feel a little "samey" after a while. They are cut-and-paste environments with little to offer. The area maps in Gears Tactics have a lot more depth and detail to them. Another positive about the maps in Gear Tactics is the lack of a reliance on a grid system. Granted, most players will end their soldiers’ movements behind cover anyway, but not having a grid system allows for more precise placement of troops. This precise movement opens up opportunities like being able to end a turn in an opponent’s blind s

This serves to give players the feeling of always being one step behind their enemy; which helps heighten the tension. Gears Tactics starts the player with a group of soldiers that can seemingly dispatch hordes of alien soldiers with e

Unfortunately, Compulsion Games did not showcase anything at the Microsoft showcase, leaving fans wondering as to what its next game actual might be. With the studio currently hiring for its next big thing and all post launch content wrapped up for We Happy Few , the studio appears to be focused on something completely

The first thing to be prepared for, in any turn-based tactics game and in Gears Tactics specifically, is a lot of repositioning. At the heart of the game is the back and forth of risk and reward that is the flanking system. Getting around enemy cover allows for some juicy opportunity for clean hits and solid damage, so don't be afraid to burn a point or two rounding the field to get an angle on opponents. With that being said, it is equally important to have an exit strategy in mind. Flanking will often come at the cost of wading deeper into the enemy's front lines, meaning an elevated danger of getting swamped and flanked. Be prepared to get in and out in the same breath, or at least be braced to take some damage in exchange for dishing some out. Consider whether the cost is worth it: can you eliminate an enemy with a flank move? What kind of cover can you get behind to mitigate any coming swarming? The key takeaway here is be prepared to burn a point on manoeuvering. Do not get stubborn about planting and Duna's Undertaker Quest shooting - damage and suppression is appealing, but if the cost is losing strategic ground or getting surrounded, it will just not be worth the couple of extra shots staying in place affo

In addition to these universal options, players can effectively use skills to boost and stretch skill points. Each of the five classes have skills that add much-needed action points. For example, the Sniper's chain Shot skill will award the shooter AP for hits; the Support can use Empower to grant bonus points to a squad-mate get their own points for reviving a friend with the Encourage passive ability; and the Vanguard's Breach skill gives a point to any soldier canny enough to bring down a breached enemy. Spend some time exploring the skill trees to suss out what options will generate the most action points without costing on combat skills, and think about this when setting up team composition - it may be worth having a Support who, while not a damage dealer on their own, can keep every other soldier firing that bit longer with bonus AP. More points means more gunfire - keep the heat up and the battle is the player's to

Two skills that every Vanguard should consider are Intimidate and Hunker Down. Available before getting too deep into specialization, these skills are both endlessly useful in nearly every combat situation. The massive 40% evasion bonus granted to the soldier chosen by the Vanguard to Hunker down is more or less an effective shield, while Intimidates double whammy of breaking enemy overwatch while simultaneously forcing them from cover is useful both for pushing advances and breaking tight opposing formati

A very basic solution to continuing a strategy game is to replay the story on a higher difficulty if the difficulty from the previous playthrough was too easy. It's a great challenge if anyone felt bored by their most recent playthro

In addition to post-launch content for its character brawler Bleeding Edge , Ninja Theory is hard at work on Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 for the Xbox Series X. Unfortunately, the Xbox Games Showcase revealed little about the upcoming action game outside of the impressive reveal trailer back from the 2019 Game Awards. Ninja Theory did post a new developer diary, revealing the game's location is set in Iceland , though not much more was said about the Unreal Engine 5 tigames-night-stacking-tower-blocks.jpg?width=746&format=pjpg&exif=0&iptc=0
